Chainmaille Jewelry

Invented before the 5th century by the ancient Celts, chainmaille was developed as armour and jewelry as depicted in this picture of Saxon women. The metal was worked cold with the most common form “four-in-one” pattern used for linking. As armour making progressed, maille became the protection of knees, elbows and other vulnerable body parts.
Today we see chainmaille revived again as extraordinary jewelry. We spoke with chainmaille jewelry designer Jane Hash about her work.
“There are so many varieties of patterns in chain maille work, it is like therapy for me – a form of relaxation. The one pattern you mentioned “four-in-one” is one of the oldest patterns”. I recently created a new bracelet Chainmaille Bracelet Half Persian 4-in-1 Weave Sterling Silver & Copper I listed on the website. Typically, my jewelry is one of a kind items with semi precious gemstones I hand select. And yes, I will do custom work .
