Victorian 12KT Gold Bloodstone Signet Ring
Back from a west coast buying & visiting trip, I took this Victorian Bloodstone ring to our jeweler to see what he thought. "Spectacular" Bloodstone,or heliotrope, a form of green jasper, gets the red splashes from iron oxide. Dating back to medievil times, Christians carved it into crosses to wear. It was once considered the birthstone for March. With a long historical presence, today it seldom used as beautifully as it was over 120 years ago.
The Victorian ring is engraved on the inside, "To My Husband" Nov 10 89 (1889). The bloodstone is a deep green with plenty of red, measuring 10.5mm x 15.2 mm. Carved with a winged horse and the letter "M" beneath. This was designed for use as a seal for letters and documents. The shank of the ring is strong, approximately 5.4 mm wide. Size 7. In order to resize, we would need to cut the shank, something we prefer not to do.
We are listing it as a women's ring, only because of the size (7).
