Rebajes Bird Necklace

The story of Francisco Rebajes is the American dream. He arrived from Columbia with no money or work. In the 1930's, during the depression, Francisco Rebajes began designing jewelry as a talented self taught artist. He lived with many other artists of the time in Greenwich Village in New York City. His work received attention from the director of the Whitney Museum of Art who purchased all his work. As he continued to flourish as an artist, he opened his first store and later moved it to New York's prominent 5th Avenue in the 1950's.

The necklace is made from castings of doves, interlocking, with a copper chain on each side for a 20 inch necklace. The casting seam is evident on each of the doves. Each dove is stamped with the early Rebajes mark. The clasp is also stamped. Overall, the condition is excellent.

It is a unique piece for Rebajes collectors. We encourage you to read "Uncle Frank", the Story of Francisco Rebajes in Modern Silver.
