Antique 1900's Leather Messenger Bag
This heavily grained 1/4" thick leather bag has seen years of service. The leather shows no wear or dryness. There are some ink stains embedded in the leather, no doubt from a time when people carried bottles of ink, along with their important papers. The bag measures 13 1/2" wide, 9 " tall,2 1/2 inches deep, with a fold over flap buckling at the base of the bag.The buckles all appear to be nickle, made with heavy bridle leather fittings. There is a bit of looseness in the stitching on the outer edge of one side for a length of approximately 2 1/2".
The front and back are stamped with a simple framed design. The back has two heavy leather straps joining in the center with a leather reinforcement. One strap unhooks and is adjustable. There is also a ring above the straps, perhaps to tie to a saddle? Anyway you look at it, it is a leather bag with lots of character and life left in it.The leather is supple from years of conditioning, and is ready to go to work for you.
