Margot de Taxco Silver Pendant

Margot van Vorhees Carr came to Taxco Mexico to design her own silver jewelry. This early sterling silver pendant shows her ancient Mexican influences. This simple Mayan design is cut into a three dimensional one and one quarter inch long teardrop shaped pendant. Highlighted against a darkened background, this sterling pendant says much about the simplicity and complexity of Margot's design.

Margot became famous for her enamel work and adapted many unique Mexican jewelry styles from Los Castillo after marrying the workshop founder. Margot signed her earliest work with the letter C representing her last name Carr, with the letter V inside the C, van Vorhees Carr. The pendant is stamped Made in Mexico Silver 925. She later became known as Margot de Taxco. These markings represent an era prior to the eagle registration, making this pendant a rare find.
