Vintage Mexican Silver Rhodochrosite Necklace.

A stunning vintage Mexican silver rhodochrosite necklace, sterling, worn by our model Shawnah . Rhodochrosite is a rare pink Mexican gemstone originally discovered in the Santa Eulaia mines in the state of Chihuahua in the mid 1600's.This gorgeous rose pink gemstone was found in association with silver mining in Mexico.Very little gemstone rhodochrosite is produced in modern Mexico.

Beginning in Taxco in the 1700's when Don Jose de la Borda first discovered silver, Mexico along with Bolivia and Peru accounted for 85% of the world's silver production for 200 years!

Oh yes, the necklace.. Twenty inches around, weighing 3 ounces, with polished rhodochrosite "bullseye" cabochons set in an open back. Each oval plaque is decorated with scrolls of silver, twisted wire and boss work. The individual cabochons are over one inch long. The large center cabochon is over 1 1/2 inches, with a thickness of almost 1/2". There is a tight fracture in one of the smaller cabochons, not effecting the durability of the rhodochrosite or the aesthetics of the setting. The rhodochrosite cabochons were removed and examined by our jeweler for their condition - in excellent shape. The heavy silver chain link is welded at each link. A hefty wide flat hook clasp holds the necklace securely. Stamped "Mexico Silver". Tested 925.This mexican silver necklace was made in the 1930's or earlier.

Yes, this is a fine gift for yourself or someone very special.
